About

Hello! Thanks for checking out my personal website. My name is Sean and I'm currently working as a Technical Program Analyst at Visa (more details here) Last August, I received my Master's degree in Information Management (MSIM) from the University of Washington with a particular focus in Program/Product Management and Consulting. More information about the program can be found here

I have always been fascinated with answering the question, "Why?" Why do we do what we do? That's what led me into strategy, analytics and now a mish-mash of hands-on PM work. Jesus Christ and sports are my day one; HUGE MLB, NFL, & NBA geek here so if you love sports, let's CONNECT! (*still waiting on the Sonics' return ..*)

Experience

I provide hands on technical experience with program planning, tracking, and implementation

Rate My Professor Redesign

From our user interviews and philosophical grounding, we concluded that Rate My Professors is evil. While it has the potential to be a very helpful tool for students, it is evil for the following reasons:

1. Telos Unfulfilled: The purpose of the site is to help students get to know professors, their classes, and their teaching styles. However, the reviews are unstructured and often do not contain enough useful information

2. Rant & Revenge Culture: The language used by the platform does not promote virtuous rhetoric and creates a moral fog around how to write a helpful review. Using pre-written responses like “Um, no.” is promoting unthoughtful and disrespectful attitudes/rhetoric on the platform itself

3. Unchecked Voluntary Response Bias: The purpose of writing a review is to share experiences to help other students. However, people generally review classes when they are extremely happy or extremely unhappy, and in RMP’s case, it tends to be the latter

4. Moderation & Moral Grounding: The platform lacks guidelines and moderation, and can promote inappropriate behaviors. It’s not uncommon to stumble upon reviews with bad language, which in turn creates a culture on the platform that falls into the internet standard moral fog
